BIO
The short version:
My wife Vicki and I, and our two dogs and two horses
(see the photo gallery), live in Eugene, Oregon. I am a professor emeritus of Italian
at the University of Arizona (where I taught for 26 years) and a writer of suspense and young-adult novels.
The
long version:
"I
should not talk so much about myself
if there were anybody else whom I knew as well."
—Henry David Thoreau, Walden
I wrote my first autobiography as a
school project at the age of fourteen—fifty-one hand-written
pages titled Remembrances
of Ronnie and
published in one copy by the "Hard to Remember" Publishing
Company. Today, however, with all the pop stars putting out
their bios at the age of nineteen, I'm mindful of Benvenuto
Cellini's admonition that one should be at least fifty before
writing one's memoirs. What follows, then, is just a sketch
of a few highlights.
